About CI/CD Bonsai
Merging software and network engineering rigor with timeless Japanese botanical art in Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas.
The Intersection of Code, Network & Canopy
Founded in Dallas, Texas as a family owned and operated nursery and care studio, CI/CD Bonsai was born from a unique realization: the principles that govern world-class network automation and software engineering—continuous integration, deliberate iteration, automated monitoring, and zero downtime—are the exact same disciplines required to cultivate a masterpiece bonsai.
Every tree is a living codebase. Trunks require solid architectural foundations; branches are branches that must be shaped and merged with structural intent; leaves and foliage pads require iterative pruning and pipelining to maintain energy balance.
As a family-run business, we take deep personal pride in every tree we cultivate, every tool we curate, and every client we assist across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.

“Tended with Care. Built to Endure.”
This tagline captures the heart of our mission. Mass-market retailers sell trees as disposable seasonal commodities; we reject the rushed assembly line to serve as faithful stewards of living creations engineered to thrive for generations.
The Counter-Cultural Stance
“Tended with care” signifies personal, hands-on attention. Every consultation, repotting, and wiring session is an act of genuine responsibility rather than a rushed transaction.
The Faithful Foundation
Rooted in servant stewardship and steadfast dedication. We perform honest work focused on long-term fruitfulness, structural strength, and enduring value.
The Engineering Parallel
“Built to endure” reflects fault-tolerant architecture. Every tree is acclimated to Texas Zone 8 weather swings, audited for sunlight microclimates, and cultivated for lasting resilience.

Kiel Moreland
Owner and Primary Caretaker
My bonsai journey began in the summer of 2024 during vacation to Williamsburg, Virginia. While shopping at their Farmer’s Market, I met a wonderful elderly couple who were selling all kinds of plants, and among them were several small juniper bonsai. I had heard about bonsai before, but I had not ever considered buying one until that day. Thus, I bought my first bonsai. Unfortunately, being a mere amateur, the juniper died because I didn’t care for it properly; however, from that point, I was determined to try again, and from then, bonsai has slowly taken over my free time to where now, it has become my new “hobby” (or according to my wife, an obsession).
By profession, I am a Cisco certified network engineer, but the network engineering landscape has changed drastically in the past several years to where now, due to advances in network automation (Ansible, Python, Netmiko, Paramiko, Nornir, pyATS), even network engineers must have knowledge of code, software development, DevOps, and best practices. Thus, I have had to shift from being a CLI jockey to developing Ansible playbooks and Python scripts for automating tasks, network stability, and network assurance.
As I have continued to learn and develop for continued growth as a network engineer, CI/CD is ingrained into all of DevOps that follows the Agile model for software development. CI/CD stands for Continuous Integration, Continuous Development (or Deployment). Following this practice, a piece of software is initially developed based on customer specifications, rolled out to production that have the key essential features for customers to use, but then features are continuously built, tested, and then rolled out. The development process is not just a one-time roll out, but a continuous process of adapting and changing software and applications as customer business demands change.
This is the vision that I have for CI/CD Bonsai. The bonsai creation process is never finished, but a continuous process of partnering with customers during their bonsai journey. A bonsai tree is never done. We begin with a raw canvas of the tree, having a vision, and begin to shape and sculpt the tree to that vision. The tree is a continuously evolving and living canvas, where different methods from wiring, pruning, “chicken plucking” (for Peter Chan followers), and potting are integrated into the bonsai growing process, and then we watch the continuous development of this living artistic media.
“I do not claim to be a bonsai master nor that I have all the answers, but I am still very much learning as I go.”
